Tourist registration in Uzbekistan: who does what

After entry, foreigners need registration at their place of stay — not a visa, but migration records. For tourists this is usually simple: the hotel does it for you.

Who must register, deadlines, changing cities and how NarminTour removes the paperwork burden.

In detail

01

What registration is and why it exists

Registration marks in the electronic system that you legally stay at a given address. It supports migration control; it is not a «tourism permit».

Without it, fines or exit delays are theoretically possible. Organised tourists rarely hit issues if they sleep in hotels.

02

Hotel or guest: who registers

At a licensed hotel, hostel or guesthouse reception enters passport data into the system. You receive a registration slip — keep it until leaving the country or until the next registration.

Tourists rarely need to visit migration offices. Exception — long-term flat rental without hotel service.

03

Deadlines and rules

Registration must be completed within 3 working days of entry. Russian citizens, according to the Russian foreign ministry, often have the first 15 days without a registration obligation — still verify before travel.

Since 2025, stays of up to 3 days in one locality may not require registration if documents confirm it — check current rules. Each new city means a new registration at the new hotel.

For stays up to 30 days, a tourist fee may sometimes be collected via hotels or the emehmon system — ask when booking.

If you cross the border and return, the clock may reset — confirm with your host.

04

Multi-city itineraries

Tashkent — Samarkand — Bukhara — Khiva means 4–5 registrations — one per hotel. That is normal.

On Classic Uzbekistan, Treasures of Uzbekistan or Masterpieces of Central Asia NarminTour books compliant hotels. You only hand over your passport at reception.

05

Airbnb, friends and private stays

Flat hosts must register you — but not all know how. Get written confirmation before paying.

If the host refuses, the risk is yours. For short tourism, a hotel or vetted guesthouse is simpler. NarminTour does not recommend unregistered private stays.

06

What to ask at reception

At check-in ask for migration registration. Get a paper slip or QR screenshot. Some hotels give a checkout note when you leave.

Children are registered with parents. Passport must stay valid for the whole trip plus any entry buffer your nationality requires.

Takeaway

Conclusion

Tourist registration in Uzbekistan is hotel routine, not your headache. On NarminTour every night is covered: Classic Uzbekistan, Treasures or Masterpieces of Central Asia. Independent travellers — licensed hotels only and keep your slips.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Do CIS citizens need registration too?+
Yes, for all foreigners staying in the country. Visa-free entry does not waive place-of-stay registration.
02Does the hotel charge for registration?+
Usually no — it is part of hotel service. You should not pay extra unless a flat rental adds it as a fee.
03What if I lose the slip?+
Contact your last hotel — they see the record. Photograph the slip at check-in.
04Does a night train count?+
A night in a train between cities does not replace hotel registration. You need registration where you actually sleep in a building with an address.
