10-day Uzbekistan itinerary: day by day

7–8 days is the proven classic: Tashkent — Samarkand — Bukhara and, on 8 days, Khiva. The pace is full but realistic — like Classic Uzbekistan 8 days.

Book 10 days if you: - fly from Europe, the USA or Australia and lose day one to jet lag; - want unhurried time in Samarkand and Bukhara — market evenings, not only tours; - plan the Fergana Valley (Kokand, Rishtan) or a rest day in Tashkent; - do not want to squeeze Khiva into one tense block.

Short on time — look at 8-day programmes. Want depth and softness — 10 days pay off.

Day 1 — arrival, transfer, light walk: metro, Chorsu, evening Tashkent. No heavy sightseeing on landing day.

Day 2 — full day in the capital: museums, Hast-Imam, Independence Square, dinner in a national restaurant. Evening — prepare for the move.

Tashkent is not a transit stop. On a 10-day plan it gets two days, not one hour between trains.

Day 3 — morning or daytime Afrosiyob train Tashkent — Samarkand (~2–2.5 h — benchmark, not a fixed timetable). After check-in — Registan at sunset.

Day 4 — Shah-i-Zinda, Bibi-Khanym, Ulugh Beg observatory, Gur-e-Amir. Evening — Siab bazaar or a show by the Registan.

Two full days in Samarkand are the main advantage of a 10-day plan over a one-day rush.

Day 5 — Samarkand — Bukhara train (~1.5–2 h on Afrosiyob). After lunch — Po-i-Kalyan, Mir-i-Arab madrasa.

Day 6 — Ark fortress, Lyabi-Hauz ensemble, trading domes, workshops. Tea house evening — no rush for a train.

Bukhara works best on foot and on a second day.

Khiva is the farthest block of the classic route. Options (pick by season and schedule — verify locally): - Flight Bukhara/Samarkand — Urgench + transfer to Khiva (~30–40 min); - Road day through the Kyzylkum; - Overnight train Bukhara — Urgench/Khiva (~5–6 h — soft benchmark); - Jaloliddin Manguberdi speed train (from 2026): Bukhara — Khiva ~3 h 20 min (not daily — check the timetable); - From Tashkent on the same train — ~7–7.5 h to Khiva.

Day 7 — travel. Day 8 — Itchan Kala. Do not plan Khiva for “half a day” right after an overnight train.

The last two days are a flexible block:

Option A — rest: return to Tashkent, shopping, spa, calm departure.

Option B — Fergana Valley: Kokand, Rishtan — the logic of Exclusive Tours from the Fergana Valley 8 days, fitted into your 10-day plan.

Option C — another day in Khiva or Bukhara if your flight is late.

Day 10 — airport transfer. Allow 3+ hours before an international flight.
